

The connectivity tax: mapping collaboration overload

The Problem
In high-growth tech environments, "good collaboration" often reaches a tipping point where it becomes a productivity tax. When meetings and digital pings consume the majority of the workday, innovation stalls. Without data, leadership is left guessing why their most talented specialists are disengaged or why critical projects are slipping, often overlooking the fact that their "hubs" are simply drowning in communication.
The Solution
This project utilises raw Viva Insights telemetry to transform anecdotal "busyness" into a quantified map of organisational health. By measuring the tension between collaborative demands and the deep work required for technical output, I have built a diagnostic framework that identifies systemic bottlenecks. The analysis establishes data-backed burnout thresholds - incorporating focus-to-collaboration ratios and after-hours spillover - to provide leadership with a clear roadmap for reclaiming team capacity and protecting high-value talent.
Methodology & Assumptions
This analysis examines the work patterns of 35 employees over a 90-day period.
Data Note: This is a technical demonstration using anonymised mock data to showcase a capability.
Focus Target: I have set a benchmark of 20 hours per week for focus work as the minimum required for peak performance.
Burnout Thresholds: Risk levels are calculated by the proportion of collaboration versus focus time. High Risk is triggered when meetings exceed 25 hours a week, forcing "deep work" into personal hours.
